Origin determination of Amber project by GRS

Using our waste database of Ambers from all over the world including different mines in Burma, as well as imitations and treatments of over 1000 pieces, we have started a research project for origin determination. First, we will focus on confirmation of rare species in comparison to our own collect origin samples and secondly check for the determination of treatments. It will also allow us to identify potential amber from conflict zones versus non-conflict zones and make a contribution to that discussion.

For this purpose, we are using the FTIR microscope liquid nitrogen cooled. First results in the process of being published soon.

Latest FTIR technology includes the combination of various techniques including FTIR microscopy, where single mm-large spots of the sapphire or its inclusions can be separately measured.
