Prof. Juan Daza receives “PMF Award of Excellence in Paleontology 2021”

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Juan Daza from the Sam Houston State University (Texas, USA) is the recipient of the “ PMF Award of Excellence in Paleontology 2021”.

He helped coordinating research projects where two new species were described based on material from the PMF. Through his passion he put together an international team of experts from different disciplines, creating awareness of the PMF collection. Among vertebrates, two new species of lizards have been formally described Yaksha perettii and Oculudentavis naga. These projects were a team effort and involved the participation of researchers from the UK, Argentina, USA, Spain, Australia, Slovakia, and Colombia.

Prof. Daza also contributed to establish a reputation of PMF as a recognized institution, and is working on helping improving the standards of scientific research on amber from Myanmar.
